Rosemary Barbera, PhD
In a time of political and social upheaval, how can social workers move beyond theory and into meaningful action?
In this episode of inSocialWork, we talk with Rosemary Barbera, PhD, a human rights activist, social work educator and international organizer, about what it takes to build solidarity, challenge systemic injustice and truly live out social work’s values. Drawing from her experiences in Latin America and the U.S., Barbera shares powerful stories and practical strategies for mobilizing through social movements, rethinking education and grounding our work in collective care.
Our conversation is both a critique and a call to action for students, educators and practitioners alike.

Rosemary Barbera, PhD, MSS, MA, is an associate professor at La Salle University whose work spans immigrant rights, economic justice and anti-oppressive social work. She brings decades of experience organizing across the Americas, including in Chile and Bolivia, and now teaches future changemakers.
